C.C. O'Briens Sports Cafe
Restaurant Info
C.C O’Brien’s Sports Café is located at 8 Mechanic Street in Pawcatuck, CT. C.C
O’Brien’s sits right on the border of Westerly, RI and Pawcatuck, CT. Sean &
Carolyn O’Brien have owned the restaurant since October of 1995. CC O’Brien’s
serves a full menu 7 days a week with daily specials from 11am – midnight. C.C
O’Brien’s hosts all kinds of sporting events on their 20 new HDTV’s. Each high
backed booth ensures your privacy which has an individual built in television that
you can tune in to your favorite channel. During football season C.C O’Brien’s
shows every game every Sunday! C.C O’Brien’s also throws a huge Superbowl
party with a free buffet at halftime and drink specials. In addition to watching
televised sporting events C.C O’Brien’s has two large pool tables and dart boards.
C.C O’Brien’s is also well known for their great food and large portions. The
Venue News had the honor of tasting some of the specials that this café is known
for. Walking into C.C O’Brien’s one feels the lively atmosphere. Patrons are
laughing and chatting, while others are tuned into their favorite channel, on one of
the many televisions. Meanwhile other guests are having a good time racking up
for a game of pool and shooting darts.
We were greeted by Trish, our waitress for the evening. She escorted us to a
booth at the far end of the café. For appetizers we ordered a bowl of chili, buffalo
and teriyaki chicken wings, a bowl of white clam chowder and nachos. The chili
was awesome, perfectly seasoned, topped with melted cheese and loaded with
ground beef. The buffalo and teriyaki wings were served on a large platter with
creamy delicious chunky bleu cheese dressing, a bowl of teriyaki dipping sauce
and fresh celery sticks. The clam chowder was thick, creamy and abundant with
chopped clams, just the way chowder should be. The Nachos came topped with
fresh lettuce, tomato, black olives, jalapeños and melted cheddar cheese. This
order of nachos was so large it was a meal by itself.
For entrees we ordered a bacon cheeseburger with seasoned curly fries and a
Philly cheese steak grinder loaded with the works served with sweet potato fries.
The bacon cheeseburger was huge and came topped with fresh lettuce, tomato
and large thick cut hamburger pickles. This bacon cheeseburger was a meal all
alone, but the large curly fries were a perfect match. The Philly cheese steak
grinder was loaded with sautéed onions, green peppers, cheese, mushrooms,
and of course lots of tender juicy steak. This Philly melted in your mouth. The
sweet potato fries were large wedges of sweet potatoes that were cooked to
perfection.
The portions were so generous that dessert was not an option right away, so we
decided to watch our favorite show on the private television in our booth. After
about an hour we decided to order dessert. We choose chocolate peanut butter
pie and New York style strawberry cheesecake. The chocolate peanut butter pie
had chunks of sweet decadent chocolate, peanut butter and chocolate swirl on a
chocolate crumb crust, topped with fresh whipped cream and drizzled with
chocolate syrup. This confection was truly heaven for your taste buds. The New
York style cheese cake was thick rich and smooth just like New Yorker’s love it,
topped with sliced strawberries and fresh whipped cream.
Overall C.C O’Brien’s offered a generous meal at an affordable price. The full
menu has a large variety to choose from including choice wines, exotic drinks,
bottled beers and on tap 28 different draught beers to choose from including Irish
favorites Guinness and Harp, Smithwicks and local favorite, Cottrell Old Yankee
Ale, Sam Adams and many other seasonal brews. The food was served hot and
the service was fast and friendly.
